Work from Home or Head Back In?

Think about Sara. She’s been chilling at home, working for two years. Now? She’s back at the office. She’s kinda excited, kinda nervous. She loved her cozy home workspace, but she missed joking around with her work buddies.

Lots of people, like Sara, are feeling all sorts of things about going back.

Then there’s James. He’s the big boss of his team. As his team heads back, he’s all ears, making sure everyone’s okay. He’s got Zoom calls for questions, tips for feeling good, and even lets people come back step by step.

James gets it. He knows it’s all about looking out for his crew.

Did you know? A big survey said 36% of home-workers in the US are on the edge of their seats, waiting to hear if they’ll be home-working or office-working. With things changing all the time, bosses gotta be smart. They’ve learned heaps from this home-work time, and they need to use that now.

Like that smart guy, Simon Sinek, says, “Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.” That’s the deal when moving from home desks to office desks.

Remote Work Rocks!

Here’s something cool: a whopping 83% of bosses say going remote was a hit! That’s from the big-deal people at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Especially when everyone was scrambling at first.

So, why’s it so great? Here’s the lowdown:

  1. Doing Things Your Way: With remote work, you can set things up just how you like it. That means people are happier with their jobs and feel like they’ve got a good balance going on.
  2. Tech to the Rescue: Big shoutout to all the techy stuff. Video calls, chat apps, and teamwork tools made sure everyone’s still buddies, even miles apart.
  3. It’s All About the Results: No more clock-watching. Now, it’s about what you get done. And guess what? Turns out that’s a big boost for being creative and getting stuff done.
  4. No More Traffic Jams: Ditching the drive to work? A total win! Less stress and feeling way better. And happy workers? They rock their jobs.

So, all in all, switching to remote? Pretty darn cool.

Easing Back to the Office: A Smooth Shift

You know, studies tell us that bosses who really “get” their team – you know, show kindness and are easy-going – they have happier and more on-the-ball teams. So, if you’re thinking of moving back to the office, you might want to keep it cool and thoughtful.

Here’s the low-down on doing this right:

Talk Straight: Keep it real and let everyone know what’s up. Why are you heading back? What’s in place to keep things safe? What’s the game plan from here on out?

Mix it Up: Think about blending days at the office with days at home. It’s a nod to the perks of working in PJs, but also keeping that face-to-face chat alive.

Stay Loose: Don’t chuck the home-working thing entirely. People have gotten a taste, and they kind of like it. Offering a bit of both? That shows you care about the team’s balance between life and work.

Use Those New Tricks: Everyone’s picked up some cool online skills working from home. Why not use them at the office too? It might just make things run smoother.

New Stuff to Learn: Some people might need a bit of a refresh or even new skills for this blended world. Lend a hand with some training or support. We’re all in this together.

Hear ‘Em Out: Make sure there’s a spot for the team to spill – be it worries, cool ideas, or just thoughts. Everyone likes feeling heard, and it helps keep things smooth.

Switching from all-remote to back-at-the-office is a wild ride, but it’s got some cool lessons too. With the right mix of chat, flexibility, and looking at the results, bosses can keep the good vibes of home-working while heading back in.

As everyone dips their toes into this next bit, let’s not forget the takeaways from our couch-office days. They might just pave the way for an even better work vibe down the road.
