Lisa Lopez-Galvan, known for her vibrant personality and as the “life of the party” among her family and friends, was a beloved local radio star.

Her loved ones are in deep grief since she was tragically killed during a parade for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory on Wednesday. Lopez-Galvan was a familiar voice on KFFI, where she brightened listeners’ days with her show “Taste of Tejano.” She was only 43, as confirmed by the authorities. KFFI shared the heartbreaking news of her passing on social media that Wednesday, with official confirmation following in a Thursday news conference. According to her KFFI bio, Lopez-Galvan had been spinning tracks as a private DJ for over 15 years and took up the “Taste of Tejano” mantle in March 2022.

The incident also left 21 others injured, including Lopez-Galvan’s adult son, who thankfully is on the mend. Two young individuals have been charged related to this heart-wrenching event. They’re currently held for firearm offenses and resisting arrest, as stated by Jackson County’s family court on Friday.

Lopez-Galvan’s passing really knocked her family for a loop, her brother Beto Lopez shared. He remembered her as “the life of the party.”

“There’s an initial shock, and it feels like a bad dream,” Lopez mentioned.

Rosa Izurieta and Martha Ramirez, who grew up and worked with Lopez-Galvan at a staffing company, told the Associated Press she was a real people person and a super dedicated mom. Izurieta shared with the AP that Lopez-Galvan went to the parade with her husband and her grown-up son.

Her sister, Carmen Lopez-Murguia, mentioned how cheerful Lopez-Galvan was at the parade.

“She was just really happy to be there,” Lopez-Murguia said. ” We did not expect the day to end like this.”

Half of those hurt were kids under 16, and one was only 8, Dr. Stephanie Burrus from Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City shared. Even though the hospital was ready for emergencies like this, Burrus pointed out, “seeing lots of folks hurt by bullets isn’t something you ever get used to.”

Videos showed what happened right after the shooting, including when someone quickly took down the shooter. The fast thinking of Trey Filter and another person got a thumbs up from the cops for helping out big time.

“The whole time we’re holding him down, people are screaming, ‘He’s got a gun, he’s got a gun.’ When he was tackled, the gun fell, and she [another witness] secured the weapon,” Filter explained.
