Last month, police in Connecticut nabbed a guy for the murder of a TV news anchor’s mom in Vermont. The crime happened back in February, and he’s just said he didn’t do it. The charge? Second-degree murder.

Shawn Conlon, 44, faced the music in Brattleboro this Friday.

The victim, Claudia Voight, 73, from Windham, Vermont, was found dead in her house on February 20, 2023. She was Heidi Voight’s mom – you might know Heidi, she’s a news anchor for NBC Connecticut and was Miss Connecticut back in 2006.

At first, the cops thought Claudia had a health crisis, but an autopsy showed something more sinister. Turns out, she died because of pressure on her neck.

Heidi Voight responded to the plea with a post on social media last Friday. She shared a bit from a news article about Conlon’s day in court. Earlier, in July, on social media, Heidi had shared a tough truth.

“My mother’s death was not natural, nor peaceful,” she shared. ” My mother was murdered, violently, in the place she should have felt safest — her own home in Windham, Vermont. … This has broken me and changed me. But I am my mother’s daughter, and I will come back stronger. I will fight for her.”

The Vermont State Police shared that Conlon was renting a room at Claudia Voight’s place and stopped paying rent towards the end of 2022. He stayed there until he supposedly attacked and killed her in February 2023.

Conlon’s lawyer, who was there at his arraignment, didn’t want to say anything about the case on Saturday.

“This has broken me and changed me. But I am my mother’s daughter, and I will come back stronger. I will fight for her,” Heidi Voight wrote last summer.

Heidi’s online bio says she’s a top-notch reporter and morning anchor, born and bred in Milford, Connecticut. She also was Connecticut’s representative at the Miss America Pageant in 2006.
