Many cars crashed on a Louisiana road on Monday. Eight people died, and 168 cars were involved. This happened on a big road near New Orleans.
63 people got hurt in this crash. Over 25 people had to go to the hospital. Some were very hurt, and others had small injuries. Some went to the doctor on their own. One car went into the water, but the person driving was okay.
After the crash, a part of it caught fire. There was a big truck that had problems. “A portion of the crash scene caught on fire shortly after the initial incident. One tanker truck carrying a hazardous liquid is being off-loaded due to a compromised tank/trailer,” said Lt. Melissa Matey of the Louisiana State Police. She also said more hurt people might be found later.
People put videos online showing the crash. There was a lot of fog, and many cars were damaged. The fog was so thick because of something called “super fog.” It happened when wildfire smoke mixed with regular fog. This made it hard to see.
By Tuesday, they started opening the road again. Trucks came to move the broken cars. “All vehicles have been removed from both sides of I-55, and DOTD has begun the clean-up of the roadway,” the police said. They’re also checking and fixing some bridges.
