When firefighters hurried to put out a fire in a Daytona Beach apartment early Tuesday, they found a woman who had been fatally stabbed. Her three little kids were in really bad shape and had to be taken to the hospital, where, sadly, the youngest, a baby, passed away.
Officials haven’t yet said what caused the baby’s death or how the other two kids, who are 4 and 5 years old, are doing now.
“This is a horrific incident two days out from a holiday that centers around family,” Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said to the news people there.
They haven’t told us the mom’s name yet. The police think the fire was on purpose, Young explained. They don’t know who did it. The fire started late at night on Tuesday at the Countryside Apartments. They found the little baby in a crib close to where the mom was.
Orlando’s WKMG says that experts think the fire at the apartment was set on purpose.
They also mentioned that a cop had to get help for breathing in too much smoke.
“I’m very proud of all the officers that initially responded, as well as fire and medical personnel,” Chief Young said. “If it wasn’t for their actions, there probably would have been more lives lost.”
