On her big day in Mexico, a bride found herself in handcuffs instead of walking down the aisle. Last Friday, officials shared the news that she was caught up in a shady extortion plot. This scheme also involved her soon-to-be husband and six others.
Known only as Nancy N., she was nabbed last month by the cops as she was getting ready to tie the knot with Clemente N., her partner in crime. But, the twist in the tale? They couldn’t catch the groom, known as “Mouse.”
This duo, along with their gang, were allegedly shaking down chicken sellers in Toluca, close to Mexico City. They’re even suspected of snatching four employees from a chicken shop there.
Among the eight caught, one guy named Santiago N. got in trouble for using an Explorer-like truck to move the kidnapped people around.
The people in charge shared some snaps and a video of the whole gang linked to the extortion racket. They even showed Nancy N, still in her wedding gown, but with handcuffs on. They also put out pictures of what they think is proof of the crime.
Turns out, these suspects might be connected to the La Familia Michoacana drug gang, as per the prosecutor’s office. Just a bit ago, this same gang got blamed for a drone strike down in Guerrero, which sadly ended up taking six lives.
Misael N, known on the streets as “Chicken,” was supposedly the big boss of shakedowns in the area. Meanwhile, Nabor N got tagged by the cops as the top guy managing the chicken and egg biz.
The word is, there’s been a tough tussle between rival crews over who gets to run the extortion racket. Things really heated up last July with some grisly finds – human remains and scary messages turning up in Toluca. After that, the law stepped in and rounded up 11 from a bad-news gang called “ElPecha.”
As for the bigger picture, last year the Mexico state prosecutor’s office had some good news. Extortion cases dipped by 3.44% compared to the year before. Putting the squeeze on those targeting poultry and egg sellers has hit the crooks hard – they’re down about $47 million, according to the authorities.
