The mom of a missing killer has teamed up with the cops to find her son, who skipped out of a Pennsylvania jail a few days ago.
Danelo Cavalcante bolted from Chester County Prison in West Chester, not far from Philly, last Thursday morning. As of Monday afternoon, he’s still on the run.
To ramp up the search, a message from Cavalcante’s mom is being blasted out in the area, says Rob Clark of the U.S. Marshals.
“That was broadcast through the helicopter yesterday and through the patrol cars in the hopes that perhaps, as desperate as he is, maybe he has a change of thought and hears his mother telling him to surrender and his family cares about him,” Clark said. “He’s desperate, he’s hungry, he’s been in the woods, he’s dirty, perhaps this is what puts him over the edge so that we can get a peaceful surrender.”
Cavalcante’s from Brazil and knows Portuguese and Spanish well. He also speaks some English. His mom, still in Brazil, recorded her plea in Portuguese.
Cops have had four solid tips on where he might be, all within a two-mile zone, focused around Pocopson Township.
“When you talk a 2-mile radius, you’ve got to remember this is a 5-foot tall gentleman, 120 pounds, and this is a heavily, heavily wooded area,” Clark said. “It’s very, very thick back there. There’s a lot of ravines. There’s a lot of hiding spots.”
The latest sighting was Sunday, said Pennsylvania State Police’s Lt. Colonel George Bivens.
“It was a trooper, actually, that observed him at some distance, gave chase, but was unable because of the terrain and some other obstacles there, was unable to get to him before he disappeared,” Bivens said.
While hunting for Cavalcante, police have checked out two break-ins. They’re telling locals to keep an eye on their neighbors.
“He is going to be looking for a means to sustain himself,” Bivens said. “He’s going to need clothing. He’s going to need food and just to get in out of the weather. It’s pretty hot out there.”
Cavalcante was locked up for knifing his ex-girlfriend to death last April. Her family knows he’s loose. On top of that, he’s also wanted for another killing in Brazil.
Authorities are warning people not to go near him if they see him. Call 911 instead. There’s a $10,000 reward for any info that leads to his arrest.
How he managed to break out is still a mystery and under the magnifying glass.
“The prison is very aware of whatever vulnerabilities they have and they have made efforts to correct those vulnerabilities,” said Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan.
