“I’m not built for this by any means. I’m not good at it. I do it, and I’ve learned how to do it,” Jenner talks about her journey as a reality TV star and supermodel.
Kendall Jenner was born into fame rather than choosing it for herself.
The Kardashian family supermodel opened up about coming to terms with her life under the limelight alongside her renowned family. “Since my childhood, I’ve always felt different in my family,” 27-year-old Kendall admitted in her cover story for the WSJ. Magazine’s Summer Digital issue. “I was born into this life, but I didn’t pick it.”
She went on, “I’m not built for this by any means. I’m not good at it. I do it, and I’ve learned how to do it.”
Kendall was merely 11 years old when Keeping Up with the Kardashians first aired on E! catapulting her family to fame. Although the show focused mainly on her older sisters’ career ambitions — from global trips to launching their former fashion brand Dash — Kendall and younger sister Kylie Jenner were recognized for their youthful antics on screen.
Being in the middle of the Kardashian-Jenner siblings, which include Kourtney, Kim and Khloé Kardashian and Kylie (and brother Rob, who prefers to stay out of the limelight), Kendall understands that fame affects each of them differently. Sixteen years after their reality TV debut, Kendall is only starting to handle industry pressures. While she’s made a name for herself as a model, Kendall admits some of her sisters are more naturally attuned to fame than she is. “Kim used to visit Kitson on Robertson just to be photographed… I think she was designed for this life,” she revealed.
Reflecting on her teen years — often spent scolding the paparazzi for tracking her daily activities, she noted, “It took me nearly 20 years to accept that I’m getting used to it now, and it’s okay and I understand it.”
Kendall feels a connection with the Kardashian side of the family, but also identifies strongly as the daughter of Caitlyn Jenner, who earned fame due to her athletic prowess. “I obviously realize I fall under the Kardashian sisters’ umbrella,” she said. “It just feels odd to me… because in so many ways, I’m just like my dad. I consider myself a true Jenner.”
As each sister ventures into their own entertainment industry sectors, Kendall is recognized for her print and runway modeling, as well as launching her own tequila brand, 818.
Kendall’s cover story is due to appear on WSJ. com and Apple News+ on June 30, with new episodes of The Kardashians released on Hulu every Thursday.
