LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Big fire at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood! Crews are checking out what started it.
The fire started Wednesday and grew super fast. It got really close to some houses. So, helicopters had to get water from a lake to put it out.
People had to leave their homes for a while, but they could come back by 5 p.m.
When the KIRO 7 team got there, people said their family called to check on them. One couple stayed but was ready to leave if the fire got closer.
I packed up a bug bag,” said Jessica Bowen. “I got two cats inside — I got them in one room so if I had to grab them I could.
Now, a big part of the old park is just burnt ground. People are told to stay away from there while crews look around. But the rest of the park is still open.
