On Friday, Thailand’s cops wrapped up a huge investigation into a suspected cyanide serial killer, one of the country’s worst ever. They’ve handed over all the details to the prosecutors about a woman who’s apparently behind a bunch of poisonings.
Over eight years, this killer seems to have taken out 14 people, with one person somehow surviving. The cops are sending everything to the Attorney General this Friday to get the ball rolling on court stuff.
Meet Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, 36. She’s got a crazy 80 charges hanging over her head. This includes being accused of planning out and killing 14 people. The cops are saying this is a record breaker in Thailand’s crime books.
A big shot from the Crime Investigation Division, Anek Taosuparb, said to the press, “Sararat is charged with premeditated murder in all 14 cases, which carries the death penalty.”
Deputy Police Chief, Surachate Hakparn, piped up with a comparison: “This is a historic case in Thailand. Even Jack the Ripper from the UK did not kill this many.” He’s talking about that mystery guy who went after women in London back in 1888.
Besides the murder stuff, Sararat’s got other charges, like using cyanide, faking documents, and thieving, as per a report by Reuters.
And Surachate added that Thailand’s gonna make it harder for people to get their hands on cyanide.
Sararat? She’s shaking her head at all these accusations. Reuters got word from the police that while she’s denying the whole killing spree, she’s kinda owned up to using cyanide.
The cops think she was killing for cash. She was big into online gambling and might’ve scammed over $140k from her victims before giving them a cyanide cocktail.
The investigation was no joke. Thai officers chatted with 900+ people and went through a whopping 25,000 documents.
Now, with all this heat, there’s no chance Sararat’s getting out on bail. Cops think she’s too dangerous.
A twist in the tale? Sararat had a miscarriage in jail this week and had to be hospitalized. The police are saying they didn’t have anything to do with that.
And, get this: her ex-hubby, a top cop himself, might be in hot water for possibly hiding a crime.
