The mystery woman in a suitcase from a Georgia dumpster, found way back in ’88, just got a name—she was Chong Un Kim from South Korea, say the people in charge on Monday.

With a helping hand from some generous donors, the Georgia sleuths matched her DNA and figured out it was 26-year-old Kim whose remains turned up in sleepy Millen that chilly February.

The poor gal had been choked, but who left her like that’s still a big question mark. She was wrapped tight in plastic and duct tape, stark bare, and stuffed in a brown suitcase that ended up in a dumpster. A guy hunting for cans stumbled upon her. The word is, she’d been gone for about a week, give or take, by the time they found her.

The sheriff’s team is on it, though. “There is still work to be done to solve the mystery surrounding Kim’s death, and we will work relentlessly to bring justice and closure to her family,” they vowed.

Kim made her way to the States in ’81, according to the detective work. She set up shop in Hinesville for a good while, a stone’s throw from Fort Stewart and a bit of a drive, about 70 miles, from Millen.

For years and years, the clues just didn’t add up to find out who Kim was. They tried everything—fingerprints, dental records, even drawing up what she might’ve looked like.

The people at NAMUS took a crack at the case too, whipping up a sketch on their computers.

But the DNA they had back then? No dice on a match. So, she went by “Jane Millen Doe” and “Jenkins County Jane Doe” because nobody knew her name.

“There were several people that were talked to and thought they might have seen something, but nothing ever really panned out,” shared Jenkins County Sheriff Robert Oglesby with WJBF-TV. He got handed the case from the sheriffs before him.
